Why We Preach the Way We Do

At Tumbling Shoals Baptist Church, every sermon is an expository walk through the biblical text — not a topical survey or a motivational talk built around a theme, but a careful, verse-by-verse examination of what God has actually said. We move through entire books of the Bible together, studying the grammar, context, and historical setting of each passage so that what is heard from the pulpit is not the pastor’s opinion, but the Word of God faithfully opened and declared.

This approach is rooted in a conviction that the Scriptures are not merely helpful for Christian living — they are alive, sufficient, and powerful (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible does not need to be improved upon, supplemented, or made culturally relevant. It simply needs to be preached. When a congregation sits under the consistent, faithful exposition of God’s Word, they are shaped by the full counsel of Scripture — the passages that comfort, the passages that confront, and the doctrines that might never be addressed if the preacher chose only familiar ground.

This is also why our preaching is unapologetically doctrinal. We believe that God is sovereign over all things, that humanity is lost apart from His grace, that salvation belongs entirely to the Lord, and that the church is built and sustained by the proclamation of the Gospel. These are not peripheral ideas — they are the heartbeat of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and they emerge naturally when the text is allowed to speak for itself.
